I really enjoyed studying this week’s chapters. There is so much content to touch on in these chapters but I’ll just choose a few things that stuck with me.
I don’t know about you guys, but every time I read the beatitudes I start to feel very overwhelmed because there are so many things and attributes we need to be working on. And then to top it off, at the end of Matthew 5 it says “be ye therefore perfect”. But then we read in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” As long as we are actively seeking God and living the gospel we will be able to become like our Heavenly Father and be perfect like He is.
The second part of these chapters that I enjoyed is the classic story of the wise and foolish men building their houses on different foundations. I was reading through a talk by President Eyring called “Mountains to Climb” where he talked about building a foundation of faith. He said, “the ground must be carefully prepared for our foundation of faith to withstand the storms that will come into every life. That solid basis for a foundation of faith is personal integrity. Our choosing the right consistently whenever the choice is placed before us creates the solid ground under our faith. It can begin in childhood since every soul is born with the free gift of the Spirit of Christ. With that Spirit we can know when we have done what is right before God and when we have done wrong in His sight.” I like how he talks about the basis for our faith being the choices we make instead of just simply believing. If we are consistently trying to make the right choices, we will have a solid foundation of faith that will be strong in the face of adversity and trials.
Also, I just wanted to say how grateful I am to have married into such a faithful family. I learn so much from reading all of your posts and the testimonies you all have.
